Screenwriter and director Vinta Nanda on Wednesday submitted an application seeking an FIR against actor Alok Nath for allegedly sexually assaulting her 19 years ago at Oshiwara police station, police sources said.
“We have received the application and are examining it. No FIR has been registered as yet,” a senior officer with the Mumbai Police said.
Facebook post
Ms. Nanda on October 8, wrote a Facebook post in which she detailed the incident. According to her post, after a party at Mr. Nath’s residence, he offered to drop her home when she was inebriated. When they reached her house, Mr. Nath took advantage of her, she said.
“I can remember more liquor being poured into my mouth and I remember being violated endlessly. When I woke up the next afternoon, I was in pain. I hadn’t just been raped, I was taken to my own house and had been brutalised,” Ms. Nanda wrote.
Support from others
While she did not name Mr. Nath initially, she later put up a separate post in which she named him. Actor Sandhya Mridul also spoke out in Ms. Nanda’s support, saying that she too had been on the receiving end of Mr. Nath’s advances.
In response, Mr. Nath’s wife had filed a defamation suit against Ms. Nanda last week in the Dindoshi Sessions Court.
Ms. Nanda is the third woman to approach the Mumbai police after the #MeToo movement broke out. On October 5, actor Tanushree Dutta submitted an application at the Oshiwara police station, based on which an FIR was registered against actor Nana Patekar, choreograper Ganesh Acharya, producer Samee Siddiqui and director Rakesh Sarang on October 10. Subsequently, on October 14, model and actor Kate Sharma submitted an application to the Versova police, alleging that filmmaker Subhash Ghai had molested her at his residence during a party.
