Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched a special drive during February to recover outstanding Provident Fund dues from defaulting employers so as to extend benefits under the Act to all members.

B. Chandra Shekar, Regional PF Commissioner, said that employers in respect of all defaulting establishments were advised to settle the outstanding dues immediately to avoid stringent actions by EPFO. In case of failure, they would be booked under Section 406/409 of the Indian Penal Code. They would also have to appear before the District Magistrate under Section 110 of the Cr. P.C.

Defaulters would have to face the attachment of movable and immovable properties of the establishment. It might lead to arrest of the employer as well. Mr. Shekar said that during the current financial year, cases under Section 406/409 have been filed against 18 employers and applications before Executive Magistrate have been filed against 10 habitual defaulters.
