Protests against National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) erupted across different parts of Puducherry on Tuesday. Students of community college, Mothilal Nehru Government Polytechnic College and JTS School took out a procession against the NEET in Puducherry on Tuesday.
Holding placards, banners and shouting slogans ‘NEET killed Anitha’, they gathered in front of Bharathidasan Government College for Women. Naveen, a Class XI student of JTS School, said that they were protesting against NEET and that education should be included in the State list.
“We want a system that is fair and allows students from all sections of society to compete on equal grounds. Rural students who have access to minimal resources cannot dream of pursuing medicine if NEET examination is allowed for the next academic year as well,” said a student from Mothilal Nehru Government Polytechnic College.
The procession went past Jawaharlal Nehru (JN) Street and culminated near the head post office. Simultaneously, on the other side of the town, more than 500 girl students participated in a protest organised by Students Federation of India. After taking out a rally through Kamarajar Salai, they laid siege to the LIC office in Saram.
A. Anand of SFI said that they laid siege to the LIC office to mark their protest against the Centre.
