Mr. Snowden, was given political asylum in Russia in the summer of 2013 after the U.S. revoked his passport.
In March this year, the whistle blower said he was willing to return to the United States if given a fair trial.
Mr. Snowden had so far only received a guarantee from the U.S. Attorney General that he will not face the death penalty.
Here are a few of his prominent followers.
Snowden's ability to participate in the debate he started - rather than sittingincommunicado in a US cage for decades - has been crucial.
