A Feb. 16, 2014 picture shows Egypt's ousted President Mohammed Morsi in a soundproof barred glass cage is seen on a monitor set up outside a courtroom where Morsi and 35 others are facing charges of conspiring with foreign groups and undermining national security, in Cairo, Egypt.

An Egyptian court suspended the conspiracy trial of the country’s former president and some top Muslim Brotherhood leaders after defence lawyers demanded that a panel of judges overseeing the trial be changed.

Mohammed Morsy and 35 others are on trial on charges of conspiring with foreign groups, including the Palestinian militant organization Hamas, to undermine Egypt’s national security.

The Cairo Criminal Court on Thursday decided to suspend the trial on Thursday as the defendants’ lawyers demanded that the panel be changed.
