Modi backs Jaitley, tells MPs to expose Congress

Updated - November 16, 2021 04:05 pm IST - New Delhi

At BJP’s parliamentary party meet, Mr. Modi hit out at Congress or levelling "wrong and manufactured" allegations to "defame" the government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, L.K. Advani, Arun Jaitley and M. Venkaiah Naidu at the BJP parliamentary board meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday defended Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley , while the Congress demanded his resignation and the setting up of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to look into the dealings of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). The Opposition disrupted the first half of the Rajya Sabha’s proceedings over the issue.

Mr. Modi, addressing BJP MPs, urged them to fan out to their constituencies after the winter session to “expose” the Congress — which was “disrupting” Parliament and blocking business — before the people. “By attacking Arun Jaitley, the Congress has committed its second big mistake, after accusing L.K. Advani in the hawala scam. At that time, the whole nation stood behind Advani and condemned the Congress. Jaitley is as pure as Advani is. He will come out with flying colours,” Mr. Modi said.
