The BJP has decided to focus attention on the corruption cases against Congress leaders to counter the Opposition’s attacks on its leaders Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje.

The BJP sought the resignation of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh against whom a preliminary inquiry was initiated by the CBI for disproportionate assets during his tenure as Union Minister for Steel in the UPA government. “Virbhadra Singh should resign for an independent CBI probe,” BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said.

BJP also accused Congress of promoting corruption and charged the party's top leadership with allowing corrupt leaders to flourish during its regime while rejecting charges of “vendatta politics” levelled by the Congress party.

Congress leader CP Joshi had on Thursday said the CBI began the PE against the Himachal CM after the Congress began raising the demand for Ms Swaraj’s resignation. A BJP leader said that the UPA government had gone out of its way to target Lalit Modi only after he fell out with a senior minister in the previous regime.

“He is certainly a fugitive, but the Congress led government went to the extent of telling the UK government that relations between the two countries would be affected adversely if he wasn’t sent back. They never did that for a terrorist,” he alleged.
