After the > mass evacuations from Libya in 2011 and even last year, most migrations from the coastal parts of Karnataka have been to the “safer” Middle East countries.
When civil war first struck Libya, at least 13 persons, working for a petro-chemical company, were brought back to Mangaluru. Since then, officials said most of the migrations had been confined to Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
Nagesh Shetty, Station Manager, Air India, Mangaluru, said a majority of passengers from Mangaluru International Airport went to GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries. “Only very few people go from the coast to Libya and Syria,” he said.
