Separatists refrain from immediate reaction

Separatist groups in Kashmir on Saturday maintained a studied silence over the Centre’s eight-point formula to deal with the current unrest in the Valley.

JKLF Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik said he would summon a meeting of the Working Committee and General Council of his outfit to discuss the new development.

The chairman of the hard-line faction of the Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani could not be reached for his comments.

An amalgam spokesman, however, said the measures would be discussed in the Majlis-e-Shoura (Advisory Council).

“We will react only after the Shoura meeting. May be Geelani will address a press conference in this regard,” spokesman Ayaz Akbar said.

Sources in the moderate Hurriyat Conference, headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, said consultations were on among amalgam leaders for framing a response to Union Home Minister’s latest move.
