The Mumbai police on Thursday claimed that prime accused Indrani Mukherjea had “confessed” to her role in the Sheena Bora murder case, even as her husband and former Star India CEO Peter Mukherjea as well as Sheena’s father Siddartha Das were questioned at the Khar police station on Thursday.
Despite several interrogation sessions and confessions from her two co-accused, Indrani had earlier told investigators that her daughter Sheena continued to live in the U.S. “Yes, she has confessed to her role,” a senior police officer told The Hindu refusing to elaborate further. Indrani’s confession comes two days before her police custody ends on September 5.
Past lifeInvestigators are now dwelling into the past life of Sheena’s mother and Indrani as they suspect that it could provide clues to understand the deep animosity that Ms. Mukherjea felt towards her daughter.
On Thursday, Siddhartha Das was questioned after he was flown in from Kolkata to Mumbai. The police had earlier said that though Sheena’s paternity was not something they were looking at, they could call Mr. Das if it was felt that his testimony was key to firmly establish the motive behind the murder.
During the public appearance he made two days ago, Mr. Das had said that Indrani could kill her daughter for money and that he last spoke to Sheena when she was in Class X.
However, police sources said that during the questioning all these claims would be verified and if needed, the former partners would be confronted with each other.
It is learnt that Mr. Das would also be questioned on whether he was in touch with his other child, Mikhail Bora, who had accused his mother, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai of trying to kill him along with Sheena in 2012.
On Wednesday, Mr. Peter Mukherjea was questioned on financial dealings of INX Media, the media company that the couple exited in a cloud of controversy.
Since both Mr. Das and Mr. Khanna are residents of Kolkata and have the common link in their past relationship with Ms. Mukherjea, investigators are trying to find out if their paths ever crossed.
