As Congress functionaries across Andhra Pradesh staged protests over a programme telecast by the Sakshi channel against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, party president Sonia Gandhi and All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi, the AICC has sought a report from Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president D. Srinivas.

Union Law Minister and general secretary in charge of Andhra Pradesh M. Veerappa Moily told The Hindu here on Sunday that he expected to receive the report on Monday.

Asked what action he would take against Jaganmohan Reddy, who owned the channel, Mr. Moily said: “First let me get apprised of what is happening in the State after going through the report.”

Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed said the party would look into the report.

The former PCC president and Congress Working Committee member, K. Kesava Rao, charged Mr. Jagan with deliberately airing the programme as he wanted the party to take action against him, thus becoming a hero. But the Congress would not act in haste. He said Mr. Jagan “has gone too far and something needs to be done.”

The programme shown on Sakshi TV was “highly obnoxious” and “it is not without a design.” Another PCC president and Rajya Sabha MP V. Hanumantha Rao demanded strong action against Mr. Jagan.
