Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday announced a series of relief measures to help the people cope with the devastation caused by cyclone Titli in the district.

After visiting several villages in Palasa and Vajrapukotturu mandals, Mr. Naidu said the government would supply 50 kg rice to every family of the fishermen community and 25 kg rice to other families. The government would also supply essential goods such as pulses, onion, and potatoes.

Mr. Naidu announced ₹5 lakh compensation to the next of kin of the seven persons who lost their lives.

He also directed payment of compensation to the farmers who lost their head of cattle — ₹30,000 for cow and ₹5,000 for goat — after completion of enumeration.

Similarly, ₹1,000 would be paid to houses, shops and other structures that were damaged partially.

Compensation would be fixed for the damaged caused to coconut, cashew and other crops after a field survey, he said.

Mr. Naidu said restoration of power and communication networks was being done on a war-footing at Palasa, Itchapuram and other towns and villages.

‘Will rebuild Palasa’

He expressed concern over the devastation caused to thousands of houses and shops in Palasa town, and promised to help rebuild it in a systematic way.

The Chief Minister enquired about the loss caused to the cashew industry and its impact on the 30,000 workers.

Mr. Naidu said a detailed report would be submitted to the Union government for its immediate assistance.

He gave top priority to listen to the grievances of the people, a majority of whom sought immediate restoration of power and drinking water supply.

The Chief Minister visited the Palasa railway station and railway quarters, and promised the officials concerned that the State government would extend them all support for their reconstruction.

At several places, he stopped the convoy and directed the officials to clear the roads by removing the uprooted trees.

During his aerial survey, Mr. Naidu interacted with district in-charge Minister P. Satyanarayana, Srikakulam MP K. Rammohan Naidu, and Collector K. Dhananjaya Reddy.

Later, addressing the media, Mr. Naidu urged people to have faith in the administration as it had handled many such major challenges, including Hudhud.

“Fortunately, we have been able to minimise human casualties this time. But there is huge property loss. We will try our best to help each and every family,” Mr. Naidu said.
