Andhra Pradesh State Scheduled Castes and Tribes Commission chairperson Karem Sivaji on Sunday directed the government departments to follow the rule of reservation strictly in recruitment and promotions. He expressed concern over ignoring rules which would lead to injustice to the downtrodden sections.
Mr.Sivaji interacted with Srikakulam Joint Collector K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu, Joint Collector-2 P.Rajanikanta Rao, Superintendent of Police C.M. Trivikram Varma and other senior officials over the Dalits’ issues. He suggested that they should provide jobs quickly to the kin of those killed in Lakshmipet five years ago. He said 19 persons were eligible for jobs and the government had okayed the proposal long ago.
Mr.Sivaji reportedly asked them to take stern action against the people who grabbed the lands of SCs and STs in the district.
Mr.Chakradhar Babu and Srikakulam Revenue Divisional Officer B.Dayanidhi told him that the district administration was quickly responding in such cases.
Fake claims
Mr. Trivikram Varma said that all the station house officers were directed to respond promptly and file cases against the respondents under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act-1989.
Earlier, representatives of various Dalit organisations submitted memorandums to Mr.Sivaji. Some of them complained that many people with false caste certificates were able to get jobs as the government failed to enquire into the issues seriously. He said that more awareness among Dalits would enable them to protect their rights.
