Member of Parliament from Rajahmundry Maganti Muralimohan on Sunday said a flyover would be constructed at Morampudi junction on the National Highway-16 in Rajahmundry, to ease traffic congestion and reduce the number of accidents.

Addressing a press conference here, the Telugu Desam MP said Union Minister for Surface Transport Nitin Gadkari had assured him of releasing funds for the flyover, which was necessary at the junction, considered an accident prone area.

Mr. Muralimohan said Union Agriculture Minister Radhamohan Singh had agreed to sanction a marine college for Rajahmundry, besides a floriculture research centre proposed to be set up at Kadiyam.

With regard to the night landing facility at Madhurapudi airport, the MP said he along with Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju had made efforts to get the facility. However, there were some pending works such as extension of runway, which would take another six months to be completed.

The MP said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was keen on developing Rajahmundry as a tourism hub and had written to the Union Railway Ministry urging it handover the historic Havelock Bridge to the State government.

Mr. Muralimohan said efforts were on to retain the fleet of 90 new JNNURM buses which were used to ferry pilgrims during Pushkarams, in Rajahmundry itself. “The State has sent a request to Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu in this regard,” he pointed out.

The MP said there were around 25 projects in the pipeline for developing Rajahmundry. Rajahmundry Rural MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary and Mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai were also present.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has promised to release funds, says Muralimohan
