Joint Director of Central Bureau of Investigation V.V. Lakshmi Narayana has said that the Supreme Court had not set any timeframe to file the last charge sheet in the disproportionate assets case against Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.
This was his response when media persons drew his attention to the reported direction of the apex court that the investigating agency complete the probe and file a consolidated and final charge sheet incorporating seven left over issues by March 31, 2013. He admitted that it was initially believed that the court had set the deadline but nothing of the sort was mentioned in the written order. According to the Supreme Court order, the CBI will now combine charges in respect of seven issues and file a single document.
The agency earlier proposed to file separate charge sheets against each of the issues – Sandur Power owned by Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, grant of mining lease to Raghuram/Bharati Cement, Penna Cement, Dalmia Cement, India Cement, investments through paper companies (popularly known as suitcase companies) based in Kolkata and Mumbai and Lepakshi Knowledge Hub promoted by Indu Projects in Anantapur.
The JD indicated the CBI’s reluctance to take back the case relating to grant of bail to former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhan Reddy though the State government had issued an order transferring the same. He said no purpose would be served by it as the ACB of the State had completed investigation and filed two charge sheets.
On the likelihood of a supplementary charge sheet in the case against Vanpic, involving Nimmagadda Prasad, he said it would be done if some fresh evidence came to notice. The government was kept informed about the encroachment in Emaar township by Galla Jayadev, son of Minister Aruna Kumari, as detected by the CBI.
