The Members of the banned CPI (Maoist) reportedly organised a meeting at Garikabanda, a village bordering G. K. Veedhi and Koyyuru mandal, on Saturday, opposing bauxite mining proposed by the TDP government.

According to sources, local area commander of Korukonda committee Jamri convened the meeting, which was attended by over 500 villagers and sympathisers. Nearly 30 Maoists and an equal number of militia members were present.

A unanimous decision was taken to oppose the proposed mining and that, if required, villagers would support the Maoists in an armed conflict with the authorities.
