Police officials raided a godown at Bommasandra Industrial Area in Bengaluru and seized 235 red sanders logs, arresting six persons in connection with the smuggling activities on Friday night.
According to the Tirupati Urban Superintendent of Police Abhishek Mohanty, the confession by two red sanders smuggling operatives — Maddela Prasad and Kummalamala Abhishek — who were nabbed by the Gajulamandyam police in the same area near Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, led to the raid on the godown.
The keepers of the facility — L. Vignesan, R. Periya Swamy, R. Balakrishna and M. Sankar — all hailing from Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu and working for red sanders smuggler Syed, were arrested from the scene.
Earlier, on October 11, the Gajulamandyam police arrested A. Naresh Kumar (33), hailing from Kalyanaiah Kandriga village in Nindra mandal of Chittoor district, and recovered 11 red sanders logs (weighing 305 kg) and a four-wheeler from his possession.
The accused Maddela Prasad, Kummalamala Abhishek and two others are absconding.
