This Sankarabharanam has got absolutely nothing in common with the 1979 classic directed by K. Viswanath except that only the title matches the original. And the next question would be – then what? It is touted to be a ‘crime comedy’.

The movie Sankarabharanam is directed by debutant Uday Nandanavanam, but has ace writer Kona Venkat taking the credit for story, screenplay, dialogues and overall ‘creative directorial supervision’ and produced by M.V.V. Satyanarayana. Music too is by a debutant, Praveen Lakkaraju. Interestingly, all these four people were involved in an earlier production titled Geetanjali starring Anjali that was termed a horror comedy.

“Please give us that much of suspense as to what this film is all about. The lead pair – Nanditha and Nikhil – have done a wonderful job and the product has turned out just the way we wanted. I seriously mean it. Everything about this film is ‘fresh’. It is an attempt to convey a message to lovers of Telugu films that we are also capable of making a different cinema stepping out of the routine formula. We can compete with Bollywood films like Kai Po Che or Delhi Belly and raise the bar,” says Kona Venkat, when asked about the movie.

Nanditha and Nikhil are both enjoying a dream run with one success after the other. While the heroine has Prema, Katha, Chitram , Lovers and Krishnamma Kalilpindhi Iddarini , the hero has Swamy Ra Ra , Karthikeya , Surya Vs Surya .

At a time when single screen theatres are increasingly losing the game to multiplex, hundreds of mini-theatres are all set to mushroom across Telangana.

These digital theatres, with a seating capacity of 75 to 199 occupying an approximate 3,000 sq ft area, will come up in gated communities, community halls, bus stands, shopping centres, clubs and other locations.

The project is being executed by Kauphy Talkies. About 1,000 such screens will be operational in two years time, informed Balwanth Singh, founder, Kauphy Talkies. These mini-theatres will infuse a new lease of life into small budget movies and also non-Telugu regional movies which have many takers in the city, said Mr. Singh. Another novel aspect of the project is putting up the entire ticket collections online to make the process transparent.

These digital theatres will also have anti-piracy measures in place.
