The coronavirus-induced night curfew in eight cities of Gujarat was on Sunday extended till August 28, officials said.

The curfew will be in place from 11pm till 6am in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Junagadh, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar and Gandhinagar, they said.

Kerala

Mansukh Mandaviya arrives in Kerala to review COVID-19 situation

central team led by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya arrived in Kerala on Monday to review the COVID-19 situation in the state which is presently accounting for more than half of the nation's daily fresh infection caseload.

According to his itinerary, Mandaviya is expected to meet Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and state Health Minister Veena George and other officials involved in COVID management in the state in the afternoon.

Subsequently, he is scheduled to visit the Hindustan Latex Ltd (HLL) office in Thiruvananthapuram as well as the government medical college and hospital in the state capital before returning to Delhi later in the evening.

He is accompanied by the Director of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and other senior officials of the health ministry. _ PTI

NATIONAL

India adds 32,937 COVID-19 cases, 417 deaths

India's coronavirus caseload mounted to 3,22,25,513 on Monday with 32,937 fresh infections, while the active cases came down to 3,81,947, the lowest in 145 days, according to Union health ministry data.

The death toll climbed to 4,31,642 as 417 more people succumbed to COVID-19, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The 3,81,947 active cases, down from 3,85,336 on Sunday, comprise 1.18% of the total infections in the country, the lowest since March last year. The national recovery rate stands at 97.48%, the highest since March last year, the ministry said.

KERALA

Pathanamthitta vaccinates all above 60

In a significant milestone, Pathanamthitta has achieved the goal of administering COVID -19 vaccine to all eligible persons aged over 60 in the district.

According to A.L. Sheeja, District Medical Officer, as many as 2,98,801 people all of whom are aged over 60, have been administered the vaccine so far. As many as 421 people could not receive the vaccine due to allergy while 4,632 others are yet to complete the mandatory 3 months after testing positive for the virus. As many as 2,871 people have refused to take the vaccine.

KERALA

Wayanad first to give first dose to all above 18

Wayanad has become the first district in the State to administer the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination to all above 18 years. The Wayanad district administration had organised a two-day mega vaccination drive for the purpose with the support of civic bodies, Tribal Development, Health, and Labour Departments, members of Kudumbashree Mission, and ASHA workers.

Health Minister Veena George said 6,16,112 of the 6,51,967 targeted persons, above 18 years of age, were inoculated in the district. Persons who tested positive for the infection, those in quarantine, and persons who refused the vaccine were exempted from the drive, Ms. George said.

New-look schools await AP students today

Dusting out decades of lethargy, government schools in Andhra Pradesh are now spick and span. The new-look classrooms await students on Monday when the schools will throw open their doors for the young learners.

The long-felt makeover became a reality thanks to Mana Badi Nadu-Nedu, the school infrastructure programme that aims to augment the facilities at schools.

 

MAHARASHTRA

Public gardens, beaches to remain open in Mumbai from 6 am to 10 pm

All public gardens, playgrounds, chowpatties and beaches in Mumbai will now remain open from 6 am to 10 pm as part of fresh relaxations in COVID-19 restrictions, municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said.

Earlier, on June 4 this year, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had allowed these places to open for the public from 5 am to 9 am. - PTI

Australia extends COVID-19 lockdown in Melbourne, reinstates night curfew

Australian authorities reinstated a night curfew and extended COVID-19 lockdown measures in Melbourne for another two weeks to contain an outbreak of the highly infectious Delta coronavirus variant.

The current lockdown was due to end on August 12 night but will now run until Sept. 2, Victoria state Premier Daniel Andrews told reporters in Melbourne, the state capital. - REUTERS

SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka tightens guidelines with night curfews

Sri Lanka further tightened health guidelines by imposing night curfews in a bid to arrest the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The night curfew will be effective from 10 PM to 4 AM from August 16 until further notice, said Army Commander Shavendra Silva, the head of the national operations center for COVID-19 prevention.

The authorities have also banned all public gatherings. - PTI

MIZORAM

Partial lockdown in Aizawl extended till Aug 21

The Mizoram government extended the partial lockdown in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area and certain restrictions in other parts of the State till August 21, officials said.

The restrictions, imposed on August 8, expired on August 14, following which the extension was announced.

The movement of people, including the casual visit of neighbours or relatives within the same complex, except under exceptional cases, is strictly prohibited during the partial lockdown, it said. - PTI
