Mahua Moitra, former Trinamool Congress MP, who was expelled from the Lok Sabha last year, vacated her official accommodation on Friday.

The Directorate of Estates, which functions under the Union Urban Affairs Ministry, had in the morning sent a team to get the bungalow vacated, and the area had been barricaded.

However, Ms Moitra’s lawyer Shadan Farasat clarified that the former MP had vacated the house earlier and there was no eviction.

“House number 9B, Telegraph Lane, occupied by Ms. Mahua Moitra was fully vacated by 10 a.m. this morning, January 19, and possession was handed over by her lawyers to the Directorate of Estates who are inspecting and engaged in due process. Premises were vacated before authorities arrived and no ‘eviction’ took place at all,” he said in a statement.

Ms. Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha on December 8 during the Winter Session of Parliament last year after being found guilty of “unethical conduct” for allegedly sharing her user ID and password for the Parliament website with businessman Darshan Hiranandani.

Following this, the Directorate of Estates (DoE) had asked her to vacate the official accommodation allotted to her as an MP by January 7.

On January 8, the DoE issued a notice, giving her three days to respond regarding her failure to vacate the government accommodation. Another notice followed on January 12.

Ms. Moitra had approached the Delhi High Court for relief, which on Thursday refused to stay the DoE notice and had asked her to vacate the government bungalow.
