Two Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militants were killed in an encounter in north Kashmir’s Baramulla on Thursday.
The police identified slain militants as Abrar alias Langoo, a Pakistani national, and Amir Siraj, a local from Sopore. Locals said 22-year-old Langoo, who went missing in July this year, was the district's known footballer and his performance on the ground earned him many fans among the local youths.
The militants were trapped during a search and cordon operation in the Wanigam Payeen area of Baramulla in the morning. “The hiding militants opened fire on the search party, triggering an encounter,” the police said.

It took the security forces eight hours to track the militants and neutralise them. “Two unidentified militants were killed during the ongoing operation.” the police said.
A Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan was injured in a grenade attack by militants in north Kashmir’s Watergam area on Thursday evening.

A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan injured in a grenade attack in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal on Wednesday succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Thursday, officials said.
Meanwhile, the police arrested four supporters of the Al-Badr militant group and recovered rifles and other weapons in south Kashmir’s Awantipura.
“All four were questioned. During the interrogation, they admitted that they had hidden weapons,” the police said.
The police said they recovered one AK-56 Rifle, one AK-56 magazine, 28 AK-56 rounds and 1 hand grenade.
In a separate operation, the police seized banned camouflage uniforms in Awantipora.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was running the business of banned uniform items and without any valid permission or registration of business enterprise,” the police said.
The police are investigating any role of the arrested person for providing these banned uniform items to the terrorists.
