A letter written by the family of the Unnao rape survivor on July 12 to the Chief Justice of India about threats received from the accused persons in the case has come to light almost two days after a truck collided with their car.

The collision, which happened on Sunday near Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, claimed the lives of two aunts of the woman. It has left the survivor and her lawyer, who was travelling with them, grievously injured.

An official of the Supreme Court confirmed the receipt of the letter, which is written in Hindi. The CJI has asked the Secretary-General to prepare a note on the letter. Copies of the letter were also sent to the Allahabad High Court and other authorities of the Uttar Pradesh government.

Kuldeep Singh Sengar, a four-time BJP MLA from Bangermau, is an accused in the rape case and was arrested in April last year.

The U.P. BJP on Tuesday said that Sengar had been suspended from the party in 2018.

The letter to the CJI narrates the incidents of July 7 and 8 when some people allegedly associated with Sengar, the sitting BJP legislator, threatened the victim’s family with dire consequences.
