Taking on the NDA government for its failure to implement the One Rank-One Pension scheme, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said: “Before the elections Modiji went everywhere in Haryana and Punjab saying that if his government comes to power it will implement the One Rank-One Pension scheme. One year has passed by, now jawans are saying please tell us the date by when it will be implemented but Modiji is saying he is busy doing yoga.”

Mr. Gandhi said it was the previous UPA government that had decided to implement the scheme and allocated funds, addressing party workers in the city here.

He accused the Modi government of coming with new schemes only to divert the attention of the people from the promises it made. “They made grand promises. They promised jobs and then said now pick up the broom and start cleaning… Now they are saying forget about jobs, lets go do yoga on Rajpath,” Mr. Gandhi said.

Land Bill

Raising the pitch against the Land Bill ordinance, Mr. Gandhi said during the UPA regime, the Bill for land acquisition was passed after a lot of deliberations, which ensured taking consent of farmers along with a provision to return land if it was unutilised for five years.

“They have done away with the provisions as their intention is not clear,” Mr. Gandhi said, adding that the land in areas where its prices are rising is being made available to “his [Mr. Modi’s] industrialist friends.”

Earlier in the day, Mr. Gandhi met prospective home buyers in the city and spoke about their concerns on the Real Estate Regulatory Authority Bill.

“I met the home buyers They have an important issue that is very similar to the issue I had been raising regarding land acquisition, which is just for a different section of the society, but the issue is the same,” Mr. Gandhi said.
