Honeypreet Insan, the adopted daughter of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, was remanded in police custody for six days by a local court in Panchkula on Wednesday.
Honeypreet is accused of inciting violence after Ram Rahim was convicted on two counts of rape on August 25. She was arrested on Tuesday on the Zirakpur-Patiala road in Punjab by the Haryana police.
Tight security
The Panchkula police produced Honeypreet in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Rohit Vats on Wednesday under tight security. “The court has sent Honeypreet to six-day police remand though the police asked for a 14-day remand,” Honeypreet’s lawyer S.K. Garg Narwana told reporters. The court also remanded Sukhdeep Kaur, who was arrested along with Honeypreet, to six-day police remand.
The police questioned Honeypreet at the Chandimandir police station on Tuesday evening and later took her for medical examination. “She [Honeypreet] did not reveal much,” said Panchkula’s Commissioner of Police A.S. Chawla on Tuesday night.
