Consultant to HAL, Mallikarjuna Swamy said here that the helicopter unit of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at Bidarehalla Kaval in Gubbi taluk in the district will start the production of helicopters in three-and-a-half years.
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs and district-incharge minister, T.B.Jayachandra handed over the documents of 610 acres of land at Bidarehalla Kaval in Gubbi taluk in the district to the officers concerned of the HAL at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here, Mr.Mallikarjuna Swamy said that production of Light Utility Helicopters (LUH) will start in the next three-and-a half years after the unit is ready for production.
He said the construction of the unit will start as soon as the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited(KPTCL) shifts the three high-tension lines from the project site where the unit is going to be established.
He said as it is a defence unit , a boundary has to be fixed and compound wall will be constructed, an 80 feet road and buffer zone will be made around the project site.
He said Gubbi unit will manufacture and assemble Light Utility Helicopters (LUH) weighing 3 tonnes will be used by the Army and Air Force for observation and rescue. The helicopters manufactured in Gubbi unit will have the capacity of four to six seats.
He said the unit will also carry out the maintainence, repair and overhaul of the helicopters. He said the helicopters weighing 10 tonnes and 12 tonnes which are manufactured in the Bengaluru HAL unit will also be manufactured at the Gubbi unit in the coming days.
Mr. Jayachandra said that the investment in the unit is Rs.4000 crore and there is a turnover of Rs.2000 crore per year.
He said more than 3,000 jobs would be created and 50 helicopters will be manufactured per year. Employment will be done according to Sarojini Mahishi report where local people are considered in the recruitment of jobs to the unit.
