Two persons, said to be members of the Hindu Jagaran Vedike, have been arrested in connection with the episode of smearing black oil on the face of progressive writer Yogesh Master in Davangere on Sunday.
The arrests were made on Monday by four separate teams of police formed to inquire into the attack.
Search for others on
The arrested have been identified as Chetan and Shivaprasad, both residents of Davangere town.
According to police sources, the motive behind the attack was to humiliate and demoralise the author for his writings against Hindu gods. The teams continue their search for others accused in the case.
Davangere Superintendent of Police Bhimashankar Guled told The Hindu that the police had intensified the search operations based on the information provided by the two arrested persons. He expressed the confidence that the others would be arrested soon.
Controversial novel
Mr. Yogesh Master, author of the controversial Kannada novel Dundhi , was attacked when he was having tea at a hotel after participating in a programme organised in the memory of journalist P. Lankesh.
