LIC targets 200 villages under Bima Gram scheme

Y. Vishwanath Gowd, Senior Divisional Manager of Udupi division of Life Insurance Corporation of India, said on Tuesday that the LIC had a target of adopting 200 villages as ‘Bima Grams’ in its division, comprising Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Chikkamagaluru districts.

Addressing presspersons on the sidelights of the 59th Insurance Week Celebrations here, Mr. Gowd said that these villages would be given financial assistance ranging from Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 1 lakh a year for their developmental activities. In the last fiscal year, 76 villages have been declared as Bima Grams, and depending on performance, monetary benefit was given to the villages.

The LIC had a target of implementing its ‘Madhur gram’ schemes in 20 villages in the division. As many as 8.15 lakh policies were already registered under National Electronic Funds Transfer in the last fiscal. The Udupi Division consists of 17 branch offices, 7 satellite offices and 7 mini offices across the three districts. Pension and Group Scheme unit and Customer Zone unit were functioning at Mangaluru, while direct marketing units were functioning at Mangaluru and Udupi. Narayana Gowda and Rajesh, LIC officers, were present.

The villages will be chosen from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru
