Male nurse arrested on charges of sexually assaulting U.S. student

A 24-year-old male nurse of a private hospital in Mysuru was arrested by the City police in the early hours of Wednesday after a U.S. student accused him of sexually assaulting her.

The victim, a university student, visited a private hospital in N.R. Mohalla police station limits on November 6 for a medical check-up after she took ill.

The male nurse, Sumeet, who was on duty, was accused of sexually assaulting her under the pretext of examining her. The complainant has alleged that the accused behaved rudely with her.

City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, who confirmed the case, said the girl was on a study tour in India and was accompanied by her friend to the hospital on November 6 for a check-up.

“They had complained to the hospital authorities and also informed the U.S. Consulate in Chennai about the incident”, Mr. Dayananda said.

The victim, who returned to Mysuru after a tour, formally lodged a complaint with N.R. Mohalla police station on Tuesday after which the police arrested Sumeet, a native of Mandya.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, another U.S. national Tiffany has accused the owner of a yoga training institute, Prashant, and his friend Mario, a foreign national, of assaulting her and her boyfriend Alexander on Tuesday morning.

In her complaint to Lakshmipuram police station, Tiffany alleged that Prasanth and Mario barged into their house on Tuesday and demanded money as per a prior understanding. But, Tiffany said she had rejected the proposal when it was first made.

Yet, Prashant came to her house on Tuesday and pulled her by the hand while Mario hit her friend Alexander.
