Updated - December 08, 2018 04:18 pm IST - Bengaluru

Shivakumara Swami, the 111-year-old seer of Siddaganga Mutt, successfully underwent a liver bypass and gall bladder removal surgery at the Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Centre in Chennai on Saturday morning.

He was shifted to the institute on Friday after he again developed an infection in his bile duct.

A team of doctors led by Mohamed Rela, an expert in liver transplantation and hepatopancreatobiliary surgery, performed the operation.

Ravindra B.S., chief of medical gastroenterology at the BGS Gleneagles Global Hospital in Bengaluru, who has been treating the seer and was part of the team in Chennai, told The Hindu that the seer was doing well after the surgery. He is yet to come out of anaesthesia, the doctor added.
