A Pakistani flag was hoisted on the tahsildar's office premises

Activists of Hindutva organisations burn a Pakistani flag in Bijapur on Sunday.

Tension prevailed in Sindagi town after some people hoisted the Pakistani flag on the tahsildar's office premises.

The police had a tough time bringing the situation under control and had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the irate mob.

The incident came to light on Sunday morning when some local people noticed the Pakistani flag on the tahsildar's office premises.

They informed the activists of Hindutva organisations, who attempted to attack the tahsildar when he arrived at the office, blaming him and the Police Department for the act.

Superintendent of Police D.C. Rajappa rushed to the spot along with police forces and made futile attempts to control the mob.

‘Lackadaisical attitude'

The people alleged that the “lackadaisical attitude” of the police department was the main reason that such acts were occurring.

“If the police had arrested the persons who hoisted the flags in Bijapur city last year, they would not have repeated it. The department is solely responsible for the act,” they added.

All attempts by the police to pacify the crowd went in vain. The police then resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the mob and removed the flag with the help of a few Hindutva organisations.

Additional forces

Additional forces have been deployed to avoid any untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, activists of Hindutva organisations staged a protest in Bijapur city and burnt a Pakistani flag. They warned that the organisations would intensify their agitation if the police failed to arrest the culprits.

Demonstration

A group of ABVP activists staged a demonstration near Hanumanthappa Circle in Chikmagalur on Sunday to protest the hoisting of the Pakistani flag in Sindagi.

They shouted slogans demanding action against the persons responsible.
