Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara said senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa will be arrested in the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) case, if such action is necessary. On June 13, he told reporters that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is investigating the case, will take a decision on the same.
The CID has moved court seeking an arrest warrant against Mr. Yediyurappa. The case is expected to come up for hearing in a court in Bengaluru on June 13. If the CID does get an arrest warrant against the former chief minister, they are likely to move for his arrest, sources said.
On June 12, the CID served a notice to Mr. Yediyurappa under Section 41 (a) of the CrPC summoning him for questioning. Mr. Yediyurappa reportedly responded saying that he will be appear for questioning on June 17.
Meanwhile, he has moved the High Court of Karnataka seeking quashing of the case filed in Sadashivanagar police station in Bengaluru. The hearing is scheduled on June 14.
On March 14, Sadashivanagar police booked Mr. Yediyurappa based on a complaint filed by the mother of a 17-year-old girl. The complainant alleged that the former chief minister sexually assaulted the girl at his residence in Dollars Colony on February 2. The mother and daughter had visited his house to seek help in a cheating case and another POCSO case filed in 2015. The former CM allegedly called the girl inside a room and molested her, according to the complaint.
The mother of the daughter died in a private hospital at Hulimavu in Bengaluru on May 26. The woman, along with her daughter, had rushed to the hospital after the woman complained of breathlessness.
