Two Keralites who died and six others from the State who were injured following Friday morning’s derailment of Bangalore-Ernakulam intercity express near Hosur have been identified.
Ittiyerah Antony (57) who hails from Aluva in Ernakulam district but settled in Bangalore and Aman (9) from Thrissur lost their lives. Those who were injured include two from Thrissur – Vamadevan (70) and Mohandas (47) from Kunnamkulam, said sources from hospitals in Bangalore. The Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Railway Manager Sunil Bajpai said here on Friday that Railway officials spoke to family members of Mr. Antony and assured all help to them. The Railways has arranged 10 buses to take stranded passengers who want to go back to Bengaluru. The others will be brought to Kerala in a special train. Though a special train was arranged from Kerala to take relatives to Bangalore, there were few takers, he said.
In the meantime, a KSRTC bus has been kept ready at Ernakulam depot to take relatives of passengers to hospitals where the injured have been admitted to. “It will leave Ernakulam as soon as relatives board the bus,” KSRTC officials said. The depot’s enquiry number is 0484-2372033.
