The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has decided to intensify the agitation to bring to book “the real culprits” in the alleged custodial brutality at Marangattupilly police station following which a Dalit youth died at the Government Medical College hospital here on July 11.
CPI(M) district secretary V.N. Vasavan told reporters here on Monday that the police had prepared more than one report relating to the arrest of Siby, 40, of Parackal House, and there were clear discrepancies among them. “This clearly shows that there is an ongoing attempt to protect the real culprits in the custodial death of Siby,” Mr. Vasavan said.
The police had said that though Siby was taken into custody on June 29th night, the computer-produced FIR clearly showed that it was prepared on June 30. The FIR said he was taken into custody under Abkari Act from the Government Hospital compound. However, he was not subjected to medical examination. Moreover, though the police said he was attacked by a teenager, they had not mentioned about any injuries on Siby’s body in the FIR, Mr. Vasavan said.

He said the reports prepared by the Circle Inspector of Police, Ramapuram, and sub-inspector of Marangattupilly, earlier gave two different versions of the issue.
The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Samithi will take out a march to the SP Office in Kottayam on Tuesday. This will be followed by protest marches and dharnas at the panchayat level on July 28.
The LDF will take out a protest march to the Dy.SP office march at Pala on July 29.
