New entry for rail station

Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu will inaugurate the construction of the second entry complex into the Kollam railway station through video-conferencing at a function in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. The Minister will also inaugurate the development works for the railway stations of Chennai, Palakkad, and Ernakulam at the function in the capital.

In a statement here, Kollam MP N.K. Premachandran said the second entry complex for the Kollam station was being constructed at a cost of Rs.9 crore. The project comprises ground levelling, parking area, booking offices, foot overbridge connecting the existing entry point and linking all the platforms, lifts, an escalator, and modernisation of the station. Tender formalities for these works have been completed, Mr. Premachandran said. When completed, the Kollam station will have entries from both the National Highways passing through either sides of the station.

The existing entry point is from NH 47. The new one will be from the NH 208. With the commissioning of the new entry point, the traffic congestion now experienced in front of the existing entry point will be eased, he said.
