Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that right-wing powers are standing united to oppose the only Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in the country and they are creating every possible hurdle to stop the development of the State.

After hoisting the party flag on Tuesday, the eve of the 23rd party congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], which will begin in Kannur on Wednesday, Mr. Vijayan said that the Congress, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had been trying to openly oppose the CPI(M) since 2021.

“They are opposing all development work put forth by the LDF government. They do not want the State to move forward and a group of MPs are opposing the development work of the State in Parliament,” he said.

In the same league

The BJP was trying to pull down the State by creating problems and hurdles in the development work. The Congress and the IUML were in the same league, Mr. Vijayan said. Both the parties could not raise their voice against the policy of destroying the State, he said.

“They do not want development to happen here. They are not able to speak for the State in Parliament. Only animosity towards the CPI(M) is driving them,” he said.

However, such opposition was not new to the CPI(M). The party had faced such challenges and opposition during various periods, the Chief Minister said. When the capitalist and right-wing forces came together and tried to spread the propaganda that the CPI(M) was no more, the party had come out strong, he said.

Citing the violence unleashed against the party workers in West Bengal and Tripura, he said they were facing all the ordeal and the party was gaining back strength. It would come out stronger than before, he said.

Earlier, the flag was hoisted in the presence of prominent leaders of the State, including party State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. The function was attended by national and State leaders of the CPI(M) and party workers.

The flag procession from Punnappra Vayalar and flagpole procession from Kayyur reached AKG Nagar (Jawahar stadium). A huge number of party members, supporters and people were present.

On Wednesday, the delegate meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at E.K. Nayanar Academy, the venue of the conference. Polit bureau member S. Ramachandran Pillai will hoist the flag for the delegates’ meeting.

Party general secretary Sitaram Yechury will inaugurate the party congress.
