The Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) is gearing up to execute a novel concept — ‘Live-In-Lab’ — in association with the Amrita University, Ecole Polytechnic, Switzerland, and the University of Stanford, this academic year.
“Live-in-lab is a growing trend that will support and accelerate the development of effective technologies. The Amrita University’s ‘Amrita Multi Modal Applications Using Computer and Human Interaction’ (Ammachi) labs is implementing live-in-labs project with the assistance of Ecole Polytechnic, Switzerland and University of Stanford,” said T.P. Sethumadhavan, Director of Entrepreneurship, KVASU.
The focus of Ammachi Labs is on technological innovation for social impact in the field of computer-human interaction, multimedia and virtual reality, with application areas in education, health care, defence and disaster preparedness.

“Even though India is the largest milk producing country in the world, productivity per cattle is comparatively low and it can be increased through new technologies. The Directorate of Entrepreneurship of KVASU is planning to use the concept for designing and constructing appropriate cattle and poultry sheds as per animal welfare norms,” he said.
The entrepreneurs will provide a live-in-lab model under the project and they can develop scientific animal and poultry houses based on location specificity.
“Micro level productivity enhancement programme at the feeding, management and disease control level will help to improve production by 10 to 15 per cent. So technological intervention at micro and macro level will help improve productivity and maintain sustainability in livestock farming,” said B. Ashok, KVASU Vice Chancellor.
