The Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi is doubling up as the party's star campaigner; he has not only lent to his voice to the campaign anthem, but is also the star in the video that was released on Tuesday.

The anthem titled “Saugandh” (vow) is the latest from the BJP's publicity stable. Penned by noted lyricist Prasoon Joshi, each stanza in the anthem begins with Mr. Modi voicing a few lines, which is then followed by Sukhwinder Singh's singing.

The BJP's prime minister candidate is seen mouthing lyrics that vow to save the country from destruction.

Released by senior leader Arun Jaitley today, the anthem talks of the mood of “despondency” in the country and is a “collective pledge” to ensure that the country is put “firmly on the path of progress”.

“Saugandh” campaign has been adapted for radio, television and other media. “Saugandh” will be played at BJP rallies and public meetings starting with Bharat Vijay rally on Wednesday.

"The audio form of the anthem will be used on vehicles and public meetings and will be played on the radio, while the video of the anthem will be shown in small relevant capsules on television," Mr. Jaitley said
