NCP leader Supriya Sule was the parliamentarian who asked the most number of questions in the 16th Lok Sabha, according to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). She raised a total of 1,181 queries. The average number of questions posed by a parliamentarian was 251, the report said.
Of the 273 Bills introduced in the Lok Sabha, 240 were passed, 10 proposed legislations were withdrawn and 23 remain pending.
“There are 521 sitting members in the Lok Sabha. This report includes analysis on sitting members, ex-members, and the Anglo-Indian nominated members of the 16th Lok Sabha,” said the report, adding that on an average, 562 MPs asked 251 questions each and the average attendance was 221 of the total 312 sittings.
Among the States, 50 MPs from Maharashtra asked the highest number of questions in the 16th Lok Sabha. On an average, each of them asked 534 questions. Two MPs from Nagaland sought answers to the lowest average of 12 questions. “Eighteen MPs from the Shiv Sena have asked the highest number of questions…on an average, each of them have asked 639 questions,” said the report.
Party-wise analysis revealed that the two National People’s Party asked the lowest average of 10 questions.
The highest average attendance of 289 was registered by seven MPs from Delhi, and the lowest average of 88 sittings was recorded by two MPs from Nagaland. Party-wise, two INLD MPs had the highest average attendance of 264 sittings, the report said.
