In the wake of the mutilation of the body of a soldier and the killing of a BSF jawan in Kupwara’s Keran sector, the Army stepped up its counter-offensive. According to an Army spokesman, at least four Pakistan Army pickets were targeted and destroyed since Saturday evening.
“Heavy casualties have been inflicted on the Pakistan Army,” said the spokesman.
In Jammu, ceasefire violation by Pakistan started at 9.15 p.m. in the R.S. Pura sector and continued intermittently till 3 a.m. on Sunday. “It was small arms fire as well as mortar shells in small quantities. The BSF retaliated appropriately,” said a spokesman.
Around 2 a.m. on Sunday, the Pakistan Rangers fired from small arms and launched mortar attacks in gaps in the Hiranagar and Samba sectors, which continued till 6 a.m. “No loss or injury was reported,” said the spokesman.
A PTI report said “unprovoked” firing resumed along the International Border (IB) in R.S. Pura sector on Sunday evening.
“At 20:00 hours, Pakistan Rangers started firing with automatic weapons at two places in R.S. Pura sector. They also fired mortar shells in Suchetgarh area,” Deputy Inspector General of BSF (Jammu Frontier) Dharmendra Pareek said. He said the BSF was giving a befitting response.
