A 30-year-old U.S. national was raped, allegedly by two youths, in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, on Monday night. The woman, who had come from Thailand along with two friends on Monday morning, had gone to visit some friends at Vashisht, about 7 km from Manali. When she was returning to her hotel in the night the incident happened, police said.
Vashisht is situated on the banks of river Ravi and is known for its hot spring baths and stone and wood carved temples. It allegedly is also a haven for marijuana smokers.
The U.S. Embassy has been informed of the incident, police said.
