Updated - July 25, 2016 07:33 pm IST - New Delhi

Assam is in the final stages of finalising a developer for a proposed IT park in Guwahati and expects work on the project to commence with next four months, a senior official at state-run AMTRON on Saturday said.

“We expect to finalise the vendor for the IT park within four months. This project will be completed in different phases over a period of three to four years,” Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (AMTRON) Managing Director M K Yadava told PTI on sidelines of an Indian Chamber of Commerce event in New Delhi.

Assam Electronics Development Corporation had identified 100 acres of land for the IT park near the airport in Guwahati. It floated a request for proposal from developers for the project in July, 2010.

However, a final decision on the developer is yet to be taken. According to sources, developers interested in the IT park have been asking for tax incentives in return for investment in the state.

The IT park to be set up in the State is envisaged to have incubation centres, residential buildings, a five-star hotel, convention centre, recreational spaces and other amenities to attract IT and ITes companies.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Yadava said Assam is focused on development of skilled resources in the State through the establishment of vocational training centres.

He added that the proposed Indian Institute of Information Technology is expected to become operational in the next academic session, which will address the shortage of highly skilled personnel for the industry.
