The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday created a ruckus in the Assembly, demanding the resignation of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav over the charge sheet filed against him in the land-for-jobs scam case.

The BJP lawmakers accused Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of “compromising with corruption”. As soon as the Assembly proceedings commenced, BJP MLA Janak Ram demanded the resignation of Mr. Tejashwi Yadav who was sitting on the Treasury Bench along with Mr. Kumar.

However, Speaker Awadh Narayan Choudhary asked Mr. Ram to take his seat, being the first day of the Monsoon Session which usually begins with obituary messages. Within 10 minutes, the House was adjourned.

Later, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Vijay Kumar Sinha said that they would continue their demand for Mr. Tejashwi Yadav’s resignation.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Kumar along with Mr. Tejashwi Yadav and his elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav reached the Assembly in the Chief Minister’s car.

The BJP MLAs expressed their shock over Mr. Kumar taking Mr. Tejashwi Yadav in his official car.

“It seems, Nitish Kumar has compromised with corruption, that’s why he is roaming with Tejashwi Yadav that too in the official car of CM,” said BJP MLA Sanjay Saraogi.

Rabri attacks PM Modi

However, Mr. Tejashwi Yadav’s mother and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused him of “misusing Central agencies to harass” Opposition leaders. She claimed that filing charge sheets again and again in the same case did not make any sense.

“The BJP government is unnecessarily filing charge sheets against us. Whoever speaks against the BJP, they threaten them with a charge sheet, the ED and the CBI. Narendra Modi does not have any work except threatening and misusing the Central agencies. He has not done any developmental work. What happened to his promise of ₹15 lakh in the account of every Indian and 2 crore jobs? He has looted the country’s money to build his party offices like a mall. BJP has made their offices like Hotel Taj,” Ms. Devi alleged.

BJP, RJD hold meetings

The BJP and the RJD also organised their respective legislative party meetings in Patna.

Addressing the legislators, the RJD supremo Lalu Prasad said that the Grand Alliance had been formed to work in the interest of the country and it was the duty of every RJD MLAs to fight against inflation, unemployment, falling economy, politics of hatred, vendetta and misuse of constitutional institutions. He also asked party MLAs and MLCs not to issue any statement against anyone within the alliance.  He asked his MLAs to raise the problems faced by farmers, labourers and youth.

On the occasion, RJD legislative party leader Mr. Tejashwi Yadav instructed all the MLAs and MLCs to be present in the House during the Monsoon Session. He also cautioned them that the BJP wanted to spread confusion on the unity of the Grand Alliance in Bihar.

“’The removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in the interest of farmers, labourers and youth of the country. If Modi is removed then inflation, unemployment, the loot of resources, constitutional crisis will end, and the country will be free of politics of hatred, and communal harmony will be maintained. The Grand Alliance under the leadership of Nitish Kumar is strong and will defeat the BJP in 2024. There is no need to pay much attention to the BJP’s propaganda. The BJP is frustrated and disappointed with the Opposition unity and they know that their departure is in 2024,” Mr. Tejashwi Yadav claimed.

During the RJD’s legislative party meeting, no MLA and MLC were allowed to carry their mobile phones.
