A team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Friday unfurled the national flag at Tadmetla village in Sukma district of South Chhattisgarh where the paramilitary force had lost 75 of its personnel in a Maoist ambush in 2010.
“A joint team of the CRPF and COBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) led by CRPF Inspector General(IG) H.S.Sidhu went to Tadmetla and hoisted the tricolor on the Independence Day,” Mr. S.R.Kalluri, IG, Bastar range told The Hindu .
However, a CRPF jawan accidentally put his foot on a pressure bomb planted by the Maoists and suffered injuries, informed Mr.Kalluri. The Jawan was referred to Raipur for treatment.
Tadmetla village is situated deep inside forest of south Bastar and is considered a part of “Maoists’ Liberated Zone”.
On April 10, 2010, 75 CRPF men and a police constable were killed in near the village in the deadliest Maoist attack till date.
“Maoists usually hoist black flag in the villages dominated by them on the Independence Day and the Republic Day. Hoisting of the flag in a village in the ‘liberated zone’ will definitely boost the morale of the security forces posted in the area,” said a senior police officer posted in Chhattisgarh.
