The “Jaipur Foot” entered Uttar Pradesh with Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav inaugurating the Artificial Limb and Rehabilitation Centre at Shakuntala Devi National Rehabilitation University here on Tuesday.
Mr. Yadav distributed “Jaipur Foot” to 22 physically-challenged persons at a workshop.
The Centre has been set up with the assistance of the Bhagwan Mahavir Viklang Sahayta Samiti (BMVSS), the Jaipur-based NGO. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Yadav lauded the efforts of BMVSS and said the rehabilitation centre would be of great help to the poor people in getting artificial limbs and callipers. He said the physically-challenged persons have to be made self-sufficient. “The State Government would organise special camps in Lucknow and other cities for the availability of implements made by the Artificial Limb and Rehabilitation Centre,” he added.

A MoU was signed between the Chancellor of the Shakuntala Mishra University and the founder of BMVSS, Devendra Raj Mehta in the Chief Minister’s presence. Mr. Yadav also launched an online web portal. , He gave artificial limbs (Jaipur Foot) to a six-year-old girl and handed over a cheque of Rs.10.50 lakh to Mithilesh Kumar, a physically-challenged person from Ballia.
Earlier, participating in another programme related to trainee teachers, Mr. Yadav claimed that the Samajwadi Party government was successful in ensuring jobs for the youth in the State.
He said no other Government has been able to provide government jobs in such numbers.

Addressing the gathering after distributing salary cheques to trainee teachers (Shiksha Mitras) at the Ram Manohar National Law University auditorium, the Chief Minister described the regularisation of the trainee teachers’ service as a big step.
