An auxiliary constable of Chhattisgarh police was abducted by Maoists in Bijapur district of restive Bastar region on Monday evening. The incident took place when Kudium Pandu (30), who was posted in Farsegad police camp of Bijapur district, was returning to his base camp after attending funeral of his mother-in-law in Talmendri village.
“Kudium Pandu was returning to his base camp on a motorcycle along with two students from Talmendri village. Some Maoists stopped him a few kilometres away from Talmendri, tied his hands and took him along with them. The ultras did not abduct the students but asked them to take away Kudium Pandu’s motorcycle. The students came to Faresegad and informed police about the abduction,” Bijapur district
Superintendent of Police (SP) K.L.Dhruw told The Hindu . Kudium Pandu worked as a Special Police Officer (SPO) during Salwa Judum days before joining Chhattisgarh police as an auxiliary constable in 2011 when the Supreme Court banned Salwa Judum and the SPOs.
He is the seventh auxiliary constable to be abducted by the rebels in last three months in Bastar.
The Maoists had abducted and killed four auxiliary constables in Bijapur in July this year. One auxiliary constable was abducted by the ultras from Sukma district of Bastar in the same month but he was released after a week. Another auxiliary constable Pila Das, who was posted in Chintagufa police camp of Sukma, was abducted and killed earlier this month.
