The beard of a Muslim dhaba owner was forcibly cut following an altercation with two young men at a saloon in Hari Nagar here. A First Information Report has been registered in this connection on charges of hurting religious sentiments.

According to the police, Jaffruddin, a resident of Khandsa village, had gone for a hair cut around 6 p.m. on July 31 when two young men also reached the saloon and demanded that they be attended first. It led to an altercation between Jaffruddin and the duo who allegedly made derogatory religious remarks against him and called him “Pakistani.” The matter soon escalated and the two youth then allegedly forced the hairdresser to cut the Muslim youth’s beard.

Jafruddin runs a dhaba in Sector 29. He is a native of Nuh.

Station House Officer, Sector 37 Police Station, Inspector Jaibir Singh said a case was registered soon after the matter came to light and efforts were being made to arrest the accused. “The accused have been identified and would be arrested soon,” said Mr. Singh.
