The Shiv Sena on Thursday intensified its agitation against the new exam pattern introduced by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). It has alleged that politics dominated by Hindi-speaking leaders was destroying the careers of aspiring UPSC candidates from other States.
Earlier, students had to qualify in English and another language paper. As per the new pattern, candidates will no longer have to qualify other language papers such as Hindi or other regional languages such as Marathi. The Sena staged demonstrations across all major railway stations in Mumbai on Thursday. “Who has given them [UPSC] the right to insult the regional languages? Is it the politics of Hindi leaders that is the reason behind this decision? The decision will destroy the careers of thousands of aspiring candidates who want to appear for UPSC exam in regional language,” said Gajanan Kirtikar, Sena leader and president of the Sena affiliated Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samiti Mahasangh.
He said his party wanted the government to rethink on its decision, against which only Sena MPs were raising their voices.
