Updated - November 16, 2021 09:21 pm IST - Hazaribagh (Jharkhand)

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped for three days at a bungalow in Hazaribagh town after which two of the four accused were arrested, police said on Friday.

The four men allegedly kidnapped the 11th class student on August 26 near her house in the town, took her by car to the bungalow on the Kanhari Hill road and allegedly gangraped her for three days, Superintendent of Police Manoj Kaushik told reporters.

Two accused, Sonu Kumar and Ritesh Kumar, were arrested on Thursday while the main accused Dhanu Kumar and Anurag Basu alias Anurag Paswan, were absconding, he added.

“Dhanu Kumar is the son of Dy SP (CID) Ajay Ram while Ritesh Kumar is the son of constable Umesh Sharma, who is posted with the Indian Reserve Battalion,” the SP said.

He added that Dhanu was on bail after being in jail in connection with five cases, including alleged looting of SBI ATM.

The SP said the bungalow belonged to former Trinamool Congress MP and businessman Swapan Sadan Basu, but he is not related to Anurag Basu alias Anurag Paswan, adding the care-taker of the bungalow is missing.

The father of the victim, who runs a dairy farm, lodged a missing report on August 27 with the police before she returned home the next night.

He lodged an FIR on Thursday after the girl narrated her woes.

A team of lady doctors was constituted for medical examination of the girl, the police officer said.

The girl’s statement was recorded under section 164 of the IPC in the court of judicial magistrate while the arrested duo was sent to 14 days judicial remand.

This is the third gangrape incident in the state after Latehar and Ranchi districts within the last ten days.
