Panaji: The in-camera trial in the sexual abuse case against former editor-in-chief of Tehelka magazine, Tarun Tejpal, began on Thursday with a court in Mapusa, North Goa, recording the statement of the victim.

Mediapersons have been barred from the courtroom during the trial. A lawyer associated with the case said Additional District and Sessions Court judge Vijaya Pol recorded the victim’s statement. “Truth will come out soon,” Mr. Tejpal told press persons, before entering the courtroom.

Mr. Tejpal’s junior female colleague had, in a complaint to the police, alleged that she was raped by him in the elevator of a five-star resort in North Goa where Tehelka was hosting an international conclave in November 2013.

He was arrested and remained in police and later judicial custody for nearly a year, before being released on bail by the Supreme Court.
