Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday said the withdrawal of lateral entry in civil service was a victory for social justice.

Mr Stalin had criticised the recruitment of candidates for civil services through lateral entry, saying it was a direct assault on social justice, depriving the meritorious SC, ST, OBC and minority officers of their deserved opportunities at the top.

“The Union Govt must halt this practice, prioritise filling backlog vacancies for OBCs and SC/STs, and ensure fair and equitable promotions,” he said in a social media message in the morning.

He demanded complete abolition of the Creamy Layer, a concept. “In the meantime, the stagnant ceiling for the creamy layer must be raised without any further delay,” he said.

After the Centre withdrew its decision, he said it had happened because of strong opposition from the INDIA Bloc.

“But we must remain vigilant, as the Union BJP Govt. will try to undermine reservation through various forms. The arbitrary 50% ceiling on reservation must be broken, and a nationwide caste census is essential to protect the rights of the backward and oppressed,” he added.
